While Reno’s Rocky Horror history dates back to 1980s midnight screenings at the old Keystone Theater and visits from San Francisco's Bawdy Caste, the post-pandemic years left the city without a regular local cast. After experiencing the show for the first time, Piper Luckey set out to build a new troupe to carry on the cult classic's electric energy.
The Red Lip Rebellion officially formed in a local coffee shop in November 2024, reviving interactive theater in Reno by blending screen-accurate shadow casting with drag, burlesque, and anything absurd. With a mission to honor cult cinema while providing a safe, inclusive space for the LGBTQIA+ community, the troupe invites fans and first-timers alike to experience true midnight-movie chaos. From flying props to fiery callbacks, the Rebellion keeps Reno’s interactive theater tradition thriving, one crimson smile at a time.

The name Red Lip Rebellion draws from a blend of cult film homage and real-world history. On one hand, red lips are The Rocky Horror Picture Show’s most famous symbol, an ultimate logo of late-night camp, liberation, and theatrical chaos. On the other hand, red lipstick carries a historical legacy as an unapologetic mark of anti-fascist resistance and personal autonomy, famously worn by marginalized groups and political dissidents to defy authoritarian control. By uniting the movie's campy outrageous art with this legacy of defiance, the troupe's identity is rooted in radical queer joy, fearless self-expression, and community solidarity.
At the Red Lip Rebellion, our troupe is built on more than just fishnets and chaos, it’s built on a community. We exist to keep cult cinema interactive, vibrant, and accessible while also maintaining a culture where everyone can express themselves without fear or judgment.
Trans & Queer Leadership: Led by trans and queer creators, our troupe unapologetically celebrates LGBTQIA+ culture, drag, and bodily autonomy. Our shows are a sanctuary for queer creativity, radical joy, and personal freedom.
Solidarity & True Community: Whether you’re a seasoned Rocky Horror veteran, a first-time virgin, an onstage performer, or a backstage crew member, there is a place for you here. We welcome weirdos of all backgrounds, identities, and experience levels, standing in solidarity with anyone who lives under the threat of hatred or marginalization on the basis of sexuality, gender, race, ethnicity, documentation status, class, or religion.
